Was Mike Parsons 66 ft wave measured on the face or from the back?
They say it was the biggest wave ever surfed but after looking at this
http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=1847
the face seems larger than 70ft so was mike parsons wave measured from the back?
plz answer
Front. But…big wave contests are measured from where you take off so if you don’t happen to take off at the highest point of the wave you don’t get credit for those extra feet. Go to Billabongxxl.com. There’s a section on how they determine wave height.
What is the best surfboard to start with?
i am thinking of starting to surf and i was wondering what surfboard or surfing brand is the best to use, if possible could you tell me the actual name of the surfboard. Also i where is the best place to go surfing if i live in drummoyne.
Welcome to surfing! I started surfing in 1966 when I wasd 14 years old, and haven’t stopped yet. If you are just starting, getting your own board is way down at the bottom of your "to-do" list.
Before you even think about surfing, there are some things you should understand. Surfing is an ocean sport, that should only be practiced by persons who are already competent ocean swimmers. Swimming in a pool is neat, but it’s not ocean swimming, with undertows, rip tides and sometimes BIG waves. I have seen lots of great pool swimmers get rescued. So, my first tip on how to surf is to be at home in the ocean. It doesn’t matter how fast you can swim in a pool or run on a track, it matters how well can you swim in a rip current in overhead waves. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now. They are a danger to themselves and other surfers, don’t join their ranks.
Lessons are the best way to start. Lessons can come from a professional instructor, or surfing family members or experienced surfing friends. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don’t want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. The last thing experienced surfers want is for inexperienced people to just grab a board, rush into the surf and get in our way. Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers.
Beginners should take advantage of renting boards and wetsuits while taking lessons. If it turns out you don’t like surfing, you haven’t wasted a whole lot of money on gear that you are not going to use. When you are ready to buy, don’t waste your time on line, go to a good local surf shop to discuss your size (weight is import, height isn’t), skill level and local wave conditions. After almost 43 years of surfing, I still get my surfboard buying advice from good local shops in the places where i surf.
Almost ALL instructors will start you off on a longboard. It is just too difficult for most people to learn how to surf on a short board. Most get quickly discouraged, and just quit. Now, over the years, I have seen some young surfers start out on short boards and master them in time. But it’s just common sense to learn on a long board.
When you are ready to buy please avoid popouts in general, and especially popouts made in third world country sweat shops by People who have probably never seen the ocean.
Here is a list of sweat shop popouts:

And here is why to avoid ALL popouts:http://www.mckevlins.com/nopopstory.htm
Anybody who would give you SPECIFIC advice as to what size or type board to buy on-line is foolish. Anybody who would take that advice is more foolish
And, I know there are lots of nice kids who want to share information with you on line. But don’t take the advice from youngsters, who may know even less than you do about surfing, a surfboard is a big investment. I hope you are mature enough to read through the BS that lots of people throw at you on line. You don’t know anywhere near enough about surfboards to by one from an on-line web site without getting disappointed. Don’t waste your time on line, go straight to the source, a good local shop
How can I get waves in my straight hair?
I am blessed with straight, fine hair. It rarely holds a curl and that only depends on what products I use. I am not looking for a "perm". Does anyone have suggestions on what products work best, and how to get my hair to have nice natural-looking waves?
Use gel or moose while your hair is still wet and scrunch it with your hands….Then hair dry as you keep on scrunching! I have the exact same hair type as you do, and this works for me all the time!
Teaching english or surfing in the canary islands or somewhere like that?
I was wondering if anyone knows any information about teaching surfing or english in the canary islands or anywhere really i guess. Or even being a camp counselor somewhere such as the canary islands. What you need to do to sign up or what not. Or if anyone knows of any websites. Thanks!
Canary Islands are a bit small; I think you’d have to be there to find a job.
But how about Australia? If you’re qualified you can teach English there and the surf is some of the best in the world!
Volkswagen Overseas
Volkswagen is making waves overseas. In Dubai, a circulating scam email stating that the recipient has won a huge cash prize plus a new car courtesy of Volkswagen has caused major confusion among people in the UAE. Volkswagen has already released an official statement saying that they have not sent any email containing such message. The German automaker has warned people in the UAE to be careful and not to easily believe such hoax email.
The scam email is believed to originate from Nigeria were scam artist abound. The scam email was believed by many people since it states there that it came from “The Lottery Department, Volkswagen Automobiles”. Furthermore, according to the circulating fake emails, the recipient has been selected from more than two hundred fifty thousand email addresses. The winner is said to receive two million pounds or Dh14.4 million plus a Volkswagen car.
The scam email also provides what appears to be a UK telephone number which supposedly winners may contact to get their secret pin code from a Claim officer.
Volkswagen UK has already made a statement saying that the emails circulating in the UAE have no connection with their company and should be ignored at all cost. “Extensive enquiries have revealed this is an online scam originating from Nigeria,” Volkswagen said.
The German automaker also stressed that the stated UK number found in the scam email is in fact routes to a Nigerian premium rate number. This means that people who are to call this number will end up with a heavily charged telephone bill. It is believed that it is through the bill from which the scam artist will received his part of the deal.
In other Volkswagen overseas news, in Kula Lumpur, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that troubled carmaker Proton and largest German automaker Volkswagen AG are in negotiations but he refused to give details of the deal.
According to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in an interview with New Straits Times, ‘I don’t want to comment because it is being negotiated.’
Further reports last week say that Volkswagen has agreed to buy a controlling stake in Proton’s manufacturing division. This news has had favorably affected Proton’s shares which rose to 13.14pct Friday to 7.75 rgt.
The Malaysian government is under intense pressure to announce details of the said partnership between the losing Proton and Germany’s giant Volkswagen. It should be noted that Proton last year lost its status as Malaysia’s biggest selling carmaker to its rival Perodoa.
Aside from Volkswagen, Proton has also tried to negotiate with the US auto giant General Motors as well as with PSA Peugeot Citroen of France. There are also three Malaysian automotive firms that have expressed their interest in taking stakes in the company.
It is interesting to note that the Malaysian government owns 59 pct of Proton in addition to a 43 pct stake held by its investment arm Khazanah Nasional.
Volkswagen and Proton will release their official announcement on February 8, 2007.

About Volkswagen
Volkswagen means “peoples’ car” in German. It is also considered an icon in the 20th century due to the large number of legendary cars it has produced. As a fact, the German automaker’s record is unparalleled in the industry. It was Ferdinand Porsche who has conceived the idea of creating a “people’s car”. He wants to provide the German public at large with an affordable and quality transport.
However some historians say that it was Adolf Hitler that commissioned Ferdinand Porsche to build a small, inexpensive car. In the year 1934, Porsche has made his first ever masterpiece- a Beetle shaped-sedan that was called Volkswagen (German for people’s car). The Beetle made its debut two years later. The war delayed the production of the vehicle until 1949. A year later the beetle shaped sedan became popular and was then known as the Volkswagen Beetle.
Even way back then Volkswagen was already renowned for its quality vehicles and auto parts like Volkswagen brake dust shield. As a fact, its very own Beetle which has become its trademark later earns the title best-selling car of all time. Its Karmann convertible which was produced in the year 1949 has also become the best-selling convertible in the world.
By the year 1955, Volkswagen has grown into a world corporation. It started building factories and working communities in countries like the United States, Brazil and Canada as well as in some major centres in Western Europe.
In the last fifteen years of the millennium Volkswagen have emerged as a true global force in the automobile industry especially with its acquisition and redevelopment of now famous brands Audi, SEAT, Skoda, and Lamborghini.
