Glacier Surfing Alaska

World champion big wave surfers, Garrett McNamara and Kealii Mamala rode into surfing history last week when they towed into a monster tsunami created by Child’s Glacier in South-Central Alaska.
The creator/producer, Ryan Casey, “disovered” the wave in 1995, while on location shooting in Alaska. Then after finishing his last film, Quest, a documentary on big wave surfing, he showed Garrett the wave… that was six months ago. So after a short scout in June, we went up in August to film this…

real surfers actually go out in the OCEAN to surf. Don’t need some jetski to tow them into “waves”. Sitka, Yakutat, Kodiak, outer Resurrection, outer Montague, CR flats, etc. Real surf.

This is fake people! Waves from caving glaciers dissipate almost immediately. Just look up any other video of caving glaciers and watch as the waves become harmless withing 10 seconds. Nice try still looks cool tho!

lol wow that just limits it to near about everywhere in alaska. Gotta say fairbanks is nice though. Anchorage is the big city though, lots to do there and 15 minutes away from places to camp, hunt and fish.
