   California, just Southwest of San Clemente Island called the Cortez Banks. It is only reachable by boat or helicopter, the banks themselves don’t really break through the surface, so its like surfing a reef and the swells slowly come up like in this video until they peak and break.    I get tired of everyone calling this fake. I understand how it can strain credulity, but this is legit, and pretty common. This footage is from a film called the Billabong Oddysey, a documentary about big wave surfing, and this is the opening sequence. This wasn’t even the biggest wave ever surfed, either. Surfers work to outdo each other every year, pushing bigger and bigger. In fact, there’s even a contest sponsored by Monster energy drink to surf the biggest wave. So believe it folks.
