A Surfer’s Dream

Surf’s Up!

Archive for the ‘surfing’ Category

Recently I figured out that when I’m surfing the net (with Firefox), my internet speed is ~150KB, but when I want to download a file (with IDM), It’s exactly 63KB.
Is it possible that ISP could limit my speed when downloading and not when I’m surfing?
and If yes, then is there a way to somehow not let the ISP to find out the difference?

Why would your ISP want to limit your speed at any time?

You have paid (I assume you have) for a connection up to a certain speed. so thats what you”ll get

The ISP dont care what you are doing

My surfing speed is 28 kbps and downloading speed is 5 kbps so please can you help me to get surfing speed while downloading? Is there any software or any trick? Thanks in advance.

u go for BSNL BROADBAND HOME PLAN 750 it’s downloading speed is above 64 KB/sec and surfing speed is 512 kbps

Hey so I want to get into paddle boarding, but they are pretty expensive. So I went on Craigslist and found a wind surfing board and it said to use it for paddle boarding, but I don’t know if they are not wide enough for paddle boarding or what. The measurements for the one Im looking at is 12′ by 26” and the other one is 12-2′ by 25". Each one is $95 I will just be going to the lake in these. Will it work? Thanks.

While the windsurfer is not ideal for SUP for $95 it will get your feet wet… don’t forget you will need to buy a SUP Paddle too. Bic even makes a SUP/Windsurfer Combo… its called the Jungle.

I read that surfing the Internet for fun (not for research) and playing online games excessively reduces your ability to reason. Do you agree or disagree with this?
And if you want to, why?

Disagree

I live in Ottawa Ontario currently for University, but i live near Toronto regularly. I’ve never surfed before and I’m wondering where some good surfing spots are located around either cities. Obviously ones that are good for beginners would be preferable.

I know I will get some people angry when I say this, but you just can’t surf without an ocean. Yes, I have seen the pictures on Youtube of guys surfing in the Great Lakes. They are surfing on the one good day of the year, in the dead of winter with a 20 fahrenheit air temp and 33 degree water temp. If you cal that funm, that’s fine, I’ll pass. Before you even think about surfing, there are some things you should understand. surfing is an ocean sport, that should only be practiced by persons who are already competent ocean swimmers. Swimming in a pool is neat, but it’s not ocean swimming, with undertows, rip tides and sometimes BIG waves. I have seen lots of great pool swimmers get rescued. So, my first tip on how to surf is to be at home in the ocean. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now. They are a danger to themselves and other surfers, don’t join their ranks. We don’t know too much about you. Maybe you already have the ocean skills.

Lessons are the best way to start. Lessons can come from a professional instructor, or surfing family members or experienced surfing friends. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don’t want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. The last thing experienced surfers want is for inexperienced people to just grab a board, rush into the surf and get in our way. Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers. .

Think about taking a nice vacation this summer, and hedaing toward the ocean (the nice thing about Canada is, you have an ocean on either side, right?) Altjhough personally I would head south. There are lots of canadian tourists who frequent the New Jersey and Maryland beaches every year, join them and take some lessons.

I want to start surfing, yet I only have about $300-$400. I was thinking maybe I could buy a used surfboard; and do you think this is enough to buy a surfboard, wetsuit, and other accessories needed to surf? And by the way, do you think 19 is too old to start surfing?

much thanks.

I’ve seen guys who are 50+ and start surfing. You’re a kid, no worries.

Try renting boards and taking lessons first. Learn the sport and decide you like it before you invest serious money into it.

Do you want to make more money? Sure, we all do! You can make more money quickly and easily by studying for a new career at home in your spare time.

If you feel that after the millions of hours of being online and surfing the web you should be considered a pro at it and would like a diploma stating that you are, get your degree in professional internet surfing! It’s the hot new career! And you know that “study” talk we’ve gone on about? Pfft. Studying is for people who actually want to learn stuff. Where’s the glory in that?

The good news is, as long as you know how to type in your email address, and are then able to log in to the email account by using your username and password… You too can get a degree in professional internet surfing. That’s not all…

There are absolutely no tuition costs! Plus, putting it on your resumé is no problem. It’s not a purchased degree, or an earned degree. That’s right! You can use it where ever you wish.

So, yeah. Why on earth would you want to do this? For about two whole minutes, you know, as long as it takes for you to fill out the forms for your degree. No, wait, and then it’s another two minutes, when you view your degree. Then you realize that you have a molecular biology final tomorrow and reality sets in.

Why would the site owners want to do this? They want to give this honor to all people who use the internet. Because internet surfers are really important for the internet world.

If you want to get your professinal internet surfing diploma, you can visit here.

The “No Surfer Left Behind” Act has a nice ring to it, in that case.

As an Internet user you face many dangers online ranging from cyber criminals trying to steal your identity to marketing companies and ISPs tracking and logging your IP address. As a lot of web surfers know, one of the best ways for protecting personal information and maintaining Internet privacy is to use a proxy server. While many useful proxy servers can be found on the Internet simply by searching "proxy" on Google, the age old question that many Internet users have difficulty answering is: What is better to use, anonymous surfing software or free web-based anonymous proxies?

A software-based proxy will run with your current browser and allow you to surf freely without having to go back to a homepage to enter a new URL every time you want to visit a different website. This type of proxy does require the user to download and install the program, but after installation it should only require 1-click to run the program and surf anonymously. A good software proxy will cost you a few dollars a month, which is a downside compared to the free web proxies. There is usually a fee associated because you are getting what you pay for. Software proxies, much like their web-based counterparts, offer anonymous surfing, but also encrypt the data being transmitted. This means that in addition to your IP address being masked, your data and the transmission between networks is also secure, unlike a web proxy. Another positive aspect of software proxies is that your origin is also hidden. A website will see your origin as the last website you visited before coming to them, which can tell them a lot about you if they are tracking your surfing habits. Software proxies also allow you to surf through various domains so that if an IT department does try to spy on you they will only see the fake web URL that the proxy gives them. The proxy will show them you are surfing on officetrainingtips.com, while you are really checking your personal e-mail.

Web-based proxy servers are quite easy to use and require nothing on your part besides an active Internet connection and a web browser. These web anonymizers require you only to enter the URL of the site you wish to visit and give it a click. Your IP address is hidden and replaced with the IP address of the site’s server. This is a great example of proxy avoidance and will get you onto a blocked website, but only offers minimal, if any, data protection and encryption services. The main purpose of the web-based anonymous proxy is to get on websites such as MySpace, Facebook, or any other site that that would normally be blocked by a school or company’s IT Department. Another downside is that this type of proxy is unable gain access to sites that use Secure Socket Layer or Secure Shell encryption, such as banking sites.

Ultimately, both methods of protecting your IP address and maintaining Internet privacy have their pros and cons. At the end of the day if you only need a quick fix to get onto a blocked website that requires no personal information, such as account numbers or passwords, then a web proxy will work for you. Using a software proxy whenever you surf, even if only for a few minutes, would be highly recommended. It is still easy to use and offers much more protection and freedom to surf without the worry of just how protected you are. Since both will hide your IP address it is more important to focus on the advanced protection a software-based proxy can offer you. This factor alone makes software-based proxies, such as Private Proxy, your best bet.

Grammy Learns To “Surf”

Before my husband Doyle gave me a laptop computer, the only thing I knew about surfing came from the 60’s “surfin’ songs” by groups like The Beach Boys or Jan and Dean. Surfing requires a beach attached to an ocean with big waves, right?

Not any more! As a 65-year-old grandmother with three adult children and three grandchildren, I have learned to ”surf ” without even getting wet. The secret lies within that computer Doyle gave me.

For two years, all I did with it was balance my bank account and play games on the thing. Oh, I knew that there was an internet and that people used their computers to navigate it. They called it “surfing“. But I never thought such an activity was worth my time and energy. Now I know differently.

You see, I’m a watercolor artist & have been painting for 22 yrs; but on July 23, 2008, I published my first website and began show-casing my art. It was the hardest, scariest, bravest and most rewarding thing I had ever done in my life!

The irony is that my husband owns a computer business. Our older son works with him, and our younger son is studying computer graphics in college. Our daughter is as comfortable with her computer as she is with a trip to the salon. Yet, I had never bothered to extend my computer expertise beyond games and check book balancing.

When it finally dawned on me that I needed a website to market my watercolor paintings, I had no idea where to start.

Thankfully, I heard about a presentation sponsored by a website builder. I signed up and asked Doyle to go with me. He went, approved the builder’s product, and I bought the package.

The first item in the package was a one-day, introductory “boot camp.” This time, I took my 25-year-old son, the computer graphics student. I thought – hum – that could come in handy later.

“Boot camp” completed, I was home alone and ready to get started. Hubby was at work. Computer graphics son was at school. The computer was on. I spread out my notes, opened the workbook and … and…. That’s right. I couldn’t remember the first thing they said during “boot camp.”

I panicked! What had I done? Thrown away a bundle of money? I had never even shopped on-line. Believe me. It’s true. With all these computer-smart people living under my roof, all I had ever done on my computer was balance bank accounts and play games.

Suddenly, a flicker of hope arose in my mind. I remembered that the website building package offered direct telephone contact with its management team. My problem was solved. I just didn’t know it yet.

I worried that these people were going to talk that “computer geek” talk. They were obviously members of the “computer generation”. Young people who probably grew up without talking on a phone that had its handset attached with a cord, or without “rolling” a car window up or down, or buying a Coke in a green glass bottle for a nickel!

Fortunately, my fear was unfounded. These people were polite, obliging, patient, friendly and willing to use a language I understood to “git ’er done.” In short, they helped me build my website and put it online.

Now this Grammy is surfing the internet almost everyday and getting a lot of shopping and work done. By the way, you are invited to “surf ” on over to my website. Just log on to www.watercolorsbyjudith.com, and if you don’t already know how, this Grammy will teach you to “surf” and we’ll “hang ten” together.

Antivirus or Internet Security ?

Feb-16-2011 By admin

Since Hackers became best friends with antivirus multinationals, they have been working hard on finding new solutions to increase the market.

Many new webinars have this fear of virus and the first application they ‘re downloading on internet is an Antivirus, as soon it’s on they feel so secure that they don’t pay any attention on what they ‘re surfing from then.

I should admit that from the 15 years I’m on the web, I’ve never bough any antivirus or internet security, and it has only cost me 2 computers, total cost 3000 $ to save 1000 $ antivirus over 15 years.

Well I don’t think I will still risk another computer and certainly not all my data!

While surfing to find the best protection, you may notice that providers are offering different types of protections.  Antivirus, firewall, antispyware, internet security, total protection … Norton goes now to 360 edition and talking about all in one protection.

Beware, as much it’s protecting, your pc can still be affect by the way you are surfing and understanding where you’re going. It doesn’t protect against stupidity!

I’ve seen many ads on TV talking about https, what does it mean? Only that your paiement is secure and keep your privacy, it doesn’t assure that you’re paying for the product you ‘ve been requesting, some webmaster are selling links to free trials ! That ‘s call Scam sites, and nothing is protecting you against it, so keep paying attention on the site you’ re on, the trademarks have to appears at the bottom fo the page, and for more security, go directly to the dot com domain of the provider.

Big search engine as Google are working with robots and they can’t detect those kinds of scam sites until someone human is telling them!

If you’re looking for an Intelligent search engine to download software, go to Jeefy.com, every links are reviewed manually and all certified from officials resellers.

Back to my first purpose … so Antivirus or Internet Security?

The most popular download actually is the free antivirus edition from AVG/Grisoft, and that’s why I said ” Better be not protected than half protected” at least you’re taking care of what you’re are doing, and you don’t “think” you’re protected…

Free Editions and trials are offered from about every Antivirus Provider, don’t get full by this, it’s just to show you how it’s working and it’s just protecting a parcel of the risk. An Antivirus cast Maximum 40 $; an Internet Security is about 60 * maximum and just 20 $ difference worth it, and I personally would pay 80 $ for a Norton 360 all in one security.

What’s that next level of security?

Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall, Registry Cleaner, Privacy controller, checking email and website you’re surfing on … we’re far ahead from the single antivirus figure.   Talking about prices and quality?

It’s like cars! You may like one that I hate and Vice versa. But think as well of the price of your computer, privacy and data …. to stupid to lose it for not paying 80 $ a year !   If you’re going for a free edition or free trial, don’t forget to upgrade

And a last reminder, as much those programs are promising security, they don’t protect against stupidity … or Mars Attack!
