A Surfer’s Dream

Surf’s Up!

I was wondering if anyone knows any information about teaching surfing or english in the canary islands or anywhere really i guess. Or even being a camp counselor somewhere such as the canary islands. What you need to do to sign up or what not. Or if anyone knows of any websites. Thanks!

Canary Islands are a bit small; I think you’d have to be there to find a job.

But how about Australia? If you’re qualified you can teach English there and the surf is some of the best in the world!

Why Clean Internet History

Why clean Internet history

When you surf the Internet, all your actions are recorded by your browser. So, each website that you paid a visit to, every search string that you used while looking for certain things or information using search engines like Yahoo, Google, MSN etc, files that you have downloaded, information that you submitted on websites, programs you ran and even more are stored. If you are wondering why to clean Internet history, the answer is simple: to protect your privacy.

In many cases, the Internet history that your PC stores can make the entire process of web surfing easier as it increases the webpage’s loading speed. However, you may not be the only person who uses that particular computer. It is likely that you share it with your spouse, children or roommates. If you don’t erase Internet history , these people could see everything that you have done while surfing the Internet. This in turn may harm your privacy and land you in an embarrassing situation. So, that’s why clean Internet history is a basic requirement that you need to consider.

You can clean Internet history either manually or by means of some special software. However, as different locations of your computer store the Internet history, if you simply clean browser history, cache and cookies, that won’t be enough. Even if you use the “Delete” button to erase Internet history files and make use of the “Empty Recycle Bin” alternative, it will not wipe off the Internet history forever. Nevertheless, you can follow these simple steps to erase your Internet browser history:

For Firefox:

  1. Go to “Tools” and click on “Clear Private Data” from the drop down box.
  2. This will delete every single bit of personal data and passwords that your computer had stored.
  3. Remove third-party “extensions” and “toolbars” separately, if any.

For Internet Explorer 7:

  1. Click on “Tools” and opt for “Internet Options” from there.
  2. In the box that has opened, select the tab marked “General”.
  3. Next, in browsing history, click on the button marked “Delete”.
  4. The “Delete Browsing History” window will open. Select “Delete All” to erase your browsing history.
  5. A final confirmation will be asked for before this action is performed.
  6. Check the box that states: “Also Delete files and settings stored by add-ons.” After you have done this, click the button marked “Yes”.
  7. Lastly, click the OK button in “Internet Options” window.
  8. As in Firefox, wipe out the third-party “extensions” or “toolbars” if you have got such installations.

For AOL (America Online):

  1. Look for the “settings” button at the top of the AOL window.
  2. After clicking on this button, choose “preferences”.
  3. Select “toolbar and sounds” and click the “clear history trail now” button subsequently.

Though the basic steps to remove such Internet browsing history are identical, you can come across minor differences from browser to browser. So, use these techniques to clean Internet history, keep your privacy unharmed and enjoy the experience of surfing the Internet.

You read all the time about how suspects have their web history made public via the police. While not a criminal, how secure is my surfing information at my server? Can my boss call up the server and get my surfing information?

You can change your privacy options. In FF, Tools > Options > Privacy and uncheck "Keep history". It’s similar in IE, but I’d have to open it to see exactly where it is. If you don’t save history it isn’t saved elsewhere on your computer. Your company could monitor web traffic, however, before it ever gets to your computer. If it’s a large company, there’s a good chance they do.

Boasting some of the best beaches and surfing in Britain, Newquay is one of Cornwalls premier holiday sites. Unsurprisingly, it has now obtained a reputation for being Englands surfing capital but there’s much more to Newquay than being just a surfers paradise.

Beach lovers will want to head to Fistral Beach – this is in fact the best known surfing beach offering fast, hollow waves for surfers. Another popular beach in Newquay is Watergate Bay although this beach is more suited to beginner surfers. Beginners may also want to try Crantock Beach as it is sheltered. There are numerous places in Newquay to hire surfing equipment and surf schools are also available for those who come only to ride the waves.

Food & Drink In Newquay

As you would expect, Newquay offers a wide variety of cuisine options for just about every pallet. Local specialities include cream teas & Cornish pasties offered by the many tea rooms & bakeries. Cornish ice-cream is also very rich and creamy to taste. Newquay is also well known for it’s seafood and has a huge range of international cuisine restaurants from Indian and Chinese to Mexican and Italian. One things for sure, when your visit to Newquay is over you’ll probably have to start a strict diet!

The Blue Reef Aquarium

If you’re interested in tropical marine life then a visit to the Newquay Blue Reef Aquarium is a must – one of the highlights is a fascinating underwater tunnel that visitors can walk through while witnessing the marine animals swim around in their natural habitats.

Other Things To Do In Newquay

Golf lovers will enjoy the scenic course overlooking Fistral Beach. Aside from the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay also has a good zoo containing a wide varierty of animals over 10 acres of land. Other activity based entertainments include pool, snooker, bowling and a range of other sports and activities. Also popular (especially with children) is Newquay Water World – containing a tropical pool, simulation waterfall & volcanos and even state of the art gym facilities for adults. Looking for something a little different? Try the Tunnels Through Time museum (a very novel way of looking at and learning about the past).

Fishing – this is one of the most popular activities in England – at Newquay there are some excellent opportunities for a wide range of fishing from fly-fishing to deep sea fishing.

Close to Newquay is the town of Bodmin – once the capital of Cornwall, it’s now an elegant little market town well worth a visit.

I have to make a powerpoint and i am finding difficulties finding information on the different types of surfing waves. =[ can you help?

it depends where you go..you can get reef breaks which is when waves break over reefs also known as "dry reef" which is usually really sharp and if you stack then you usually hit the reef or rocks. also there are sand bars etc.. but diffferent waves include wedges which is when two waves colide going sideways which send a big triangle of water into the air which is fun to get air off. also there are barrels which is where the wave barrels in a cylinder type shape.. also close outs which barrel and and then close out so there is no way of escaping and you usually eat it. hope this helps..if not if you type it into youtube you might get a better answer.

Did you know approximately 10 million kids go to camp each year? A positive summer camp experience can mean everything to a child. Sending your kids to camp is part of the American way of life. When you think of camp, you probably think of roasting marshmallows around the campfire and singing songs. But there is more to the camp experience than that!

Many people seem to considering surfing summer camps in addition to, or as alternative for, traditional summer camps. surfing (or surf) camps offer all the important benefits that traditional camps offer, such as the opportunity to make new friends and increase self-confidence and esteem. But surf camps offer something more: incredible health benefits for kids.

Not only is surfing a total blast and easily learned with a qualified instructor, but when kids go to surf camp, they get a total body workout from cardiovascular exercise to arm and leg strength to learning how to increase their balance.

When kids paddle out on their surfboards toward the ocean to catch a wave, they are developing upper body strength (including their arms, chest and shoulders), plus they are getting a nice cardiovascular workout.

Then, when they are actually surfing, they are using their leg muscles and developing important balance skills.

There are several sites on the Internet to find surf camps for your kids. You can do a general search for “kids surf camps” on Google. Or, or you can visit a site-specific search engine like Surf Camp Search.com where you will find many available surf camps for kids and teens everywhere in the United States and abroad.

It doesn’t matter if your child is a beginning surfer or experienced and learning to pick up tips from a pro, there’s a safe and fun surf camp out there for you…plus, the health benefits can’t be denied!

me and four other guys are planning on going to california for four days and we have never been surfing before so we want to try it out while we are there. we are going down in a van and plan to sleep in it at night, would it be cheaper to buy a board if we are going to use it for four days or would it be cheaper to rent it, where should we go since we are beginners and where should we park our van to sleep?

Big Sur, other parts of Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, all have surfing spots plus board rental/surfing lesson places up and down the coast.

And Big Sur offers some lovely campgrounds that aren’t expensive, which would add to the fun and keep costs down. (See http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.com/big-sur-california.html for more info)

The Cayman Islands are well known for the outstanding dive sites and clear waters, but what if this doesn’t interest you? Well there are plenty of other water sports that you can take part in. John Guinn, the Cayman Islands Specialist at Holiday Hut lists his top nine.

Parasailing

When parasailing (also know as parascending) you are attached to a specially designed parachute, or parasail, and to a boat. The forward movement of the boat causes the parachute to rise and you are lifted up in the air. If the boat has enough power, then two or three people can share the same parachute.

Jet Ski

Jet Ski is a brand name, but in the same way that all spa baths are Jacuzzis and all vacuum cleaners are Hoovers, any personal watercraft that relies on a petrol powered engine and acts like a motorbike is know as a Jet Ski.

Jet skiing is fantastic fun, after a brief introduction you could be powering across the water on your own, or even going on a Jet Ski Safari to Stingray City. Just try not to think about the fact that they don’t have brakes!

Kiteboarding/Kitesurfing

Simple to explain, but difficult to master, a kiteboarder has his feet strapped to a board, while holding onto a large kite. The kite is used to propel the kiteboarder across the water. Both the board and the kite have to be controller to enable the kiteboarder to move and to do stunts. The Cayman Islands have a warm steady wind year round, making it the ideal place to learn to Kiteboard.

Windsurfing

Once called ‘surfing’s ginger haired cousin’ by the traditional surfers, windsurfing has become very popular, and until recently windsurfers were able to travel on waves that were too large for tradition surfing. A windsurf board is similar to a surfboard, but has a large sail, with a boon attached to it. Similar stunts to those performed by kiteboarders are possible. The best place to windsurf on Grand Cayman is near a flat water reef at East End. Speak to local guides if you want a more challenging surf.

Wakeboarding

When wakeboarding you are towed along by a motorboat while your feet are strapped to a wakeboard. It is a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing.

Wakesurfing

A surfer is pulled along by the same type of boat that is used in wakeboarding, except the surfer releases the two rope and surfs the wake produced by the boat in a similar manner as normal surfing.

Surfing

Not a sport that you would associate with the calm Caribbean Sea, but at certain times of the year it is possible to have some challenging waves around he Cayman Islands. The Hurricane Season particularly August and September can see large swells due to nearby hurricanes and tropical storms. Although you could go weeks without a decent wave.

Sailing

Although off the beaten track, the Cayman Islands have excellent waters in which to sail. Despite the generally calm waters, there are hidden dangers with the many coral reefs around the islands, so care should be taken. Also these reefs make excellent places to stop and admire the underwater life (following the strict laws about mooring, or course). It is probably best to avoid the hurricane season as the rains and winds can make sailing difficult. If you don’t have your own boat, local companies have group sailings, or you could charter your own yacht along with a crew.

Kayaks

Sometimes called a canoe in error, a kayak differs from a canoe in that it has a closed paddling area. Also in a kayak you sit on a seat directly on the bottom of the boat and your legs are extended in front of you, but in a canoe you either kneel or sit on a elevated seat.

You can either kayak along the beach near your hotel, or for a magical experience you could go on a guided Eco-Tour around Grand Cayman and get a better understanding of the natural hidden beauty of the Cayman Islands.

Visit www.caymanactivityguide.com for a list of suppliers for these activities. This website also has discount vouchers for some companies. For more information on how to get the most out of your Cayman Islands holiday contact John Guinn at Holiday Hut Ltd

I need to know the cheapest it would cost to get into surfing and I don’t need the best of any thing I just need what it takes to get stared.
I know the boards are more less depending in the size. I am 260 I will probaly be around 200 to 210 by the time I am ready to invest into surfing.

Lessons are the only sensible way to start surfing, either from a professional instructor, or surfing family or friends who are experienced surfers. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now, who THINK they can surf. Please don’t join their ranks. The VERY LAST THING the rest of us experienced surfers want is people to take silly on-line advice, and go down to the beach, grab a surfboard, and go out and get in our way.

Most people start out best on long boards, but I have seen plenty of surfers start begin with a short board and master it in no time. It just tends to be more difficult. The bottom line is there are NO RULES as to what kind of surfboard you learn on. Certainly a longboard usually is more user friendly. There are also good internediate length boards to learn on, funshapes, mini-mals and some hybrids. That is why instructors use long boards or fun boards (or even softtops).

THE REAL BOTTOM LINE IS: Go to a Surf Shop, not a computer. I have been surfing since 1966 and I get my surfboard advice at good local shops at the places where I surf. The pros there can give you the right answers!!

Most professional instructors will rent you a board to learn on. Beginners shouldn’t even think about buying a board until they master the basics, and decide they really want to keep on surfing.

Lessons can cost anywhere for $75. to $100. for half day to $100. to $200. for full day, for private lessons, and about half that for group lessons, and almost all include board and wetsuit rental. If you decide you like surfing, and want to keep on doing it, you can buy a nice used board for anywhere from $250.00 to $500.00, depending on what you decide is right for you. Just please, avoid popouts and junk made in far eastern sweatshops.

Coming from Atlanta, your best bet will be for you to head east to South Carolina, or south to Florida for some decent surfing spots. The Georgia coast tends to be pretty ’surf-less’. There are a couple great surf towns in both states, with great shops and good instruction.

And, I know there are lots of nice kids who want to share information with you on line. But don’t take the advice from youngsters, who may know even less than you do about surfing, a surfboard is a big investment. I am sure you are mature enough to read through the BS that lots of people throw at you on line.

Anybody, on-line, who gives specific advice on what size board someone should buy is foolish. Anyone who takes that advice is more foolish.Good luck!
