    You’re actually dead on, this is a clip of Darryl ‘Flea’ Virostko wiping out on a huge wave from the Mavericks film “Whipped”. They then spliced it in with another clip of Grant Washburn pulling out of an insane barrel. They then composited this into the “news” footage after then zoom and disguised the transition with a quick motion blur. Good eye!

    well the actual surfing is real, the actual is real… the surfer actually surfing in that storm is not real. when they blur out the camera right after they zoom into the surfer… they probably put in a shot from mavericks or something that looked exactly like the form of the wave from the storm except with a surfer.
